Nine Labor Day Weekend Getaways in Kansas

Hoisington 

This citywide weekend festival begins with a community barbecue and beer garden, followed by events for kids that include turtle races, face painting, and a golf tournament. Looking for something a little more relaxed? you can take in the sights along the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scientific Byway as well. 

Salina 

Say goodbye to summer while enjoying the artistic culture of Salina. The city is home to the Salina Sculpture Walk, as well as the First Friday Live Art Walk over the holiday weekend. For continued admiration of the arts, you can tour the Salina Art Center filled with local art or explore the green spaces of the city, which include 700 acres of hiking and biking trails. 

Lindsborg 

For all you history junkies who enjoy exploring historic sites, museums, and galleries, then Lindsborg is the ideal destination for you. The cool fall weather is perfect for a hike through Coronado Heights Park to see the rock formations. Other attractions include the Wild Dala Horse Herd monument, Red Barn Studio art gallery, and the McPherson County Mill Museum. 

Hutchinson 

Make a splash in the river with guided boat tours by the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center, or soak up the soon to an eventful day looking at wildlife at the Hutchinson Zoo. For indoor entertainment, head on over to the Cosmosphere science museum, which boasts a large collection of space exhibits from the Space Race era. The educational attractions don't stop there -- go 650 feet below the earth at the Strataca museum to learn about the 1800s salt mine operations and pick up a salt deposit souvenir. 

Topeka 

The capital has a lot to offer. To start -- the Annual Traditional Inter-Tribal Pow Wow, where you can celebrate Native American customs and cultures. Then at the Huff' n Puff Hot Air Balloon Festival where you can watch more than 30 hor air balloons launch over the lake. If you're into arts and crafts, the Cider days festival is held at the Kansas Expocentre. 

Manhattan 

Enjoy some of the last moments of summer in a Kansas city that thrives on nature-themed attractions. Stop in at the Lazy T Ranch for hayrides and a chuckwagon lunch, or zipline through the wooded forests on an excursion at the Wildwood Outdoor Adventure Park. The museum buffs can spend an afternoon at the Riley County Historical Museum or the Goodnow House Museum, while the kids can explore the Flint Hills Discovery Center before retreating to your cozy vacation rental for some rest on your Labor Day weekend getaway.
